MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear WAPA members,

It is my pleasure as the incoming president to welcome each of you to WAPA.  As a Board we have an opportunity and responsibility to continue successful leadership.  WAPA has always been a strong organization and has helped to advance our profession in many ways.  We must continue to strive to better our profession and our state organization.  I am looking forward to working with each and every one of the board members and the constituent chapter.

We have had a strong organization for years and hopefully we will continue to be strong.  One of my goals is to involve more members.  We have one of the best membership percentages but i is hard to get involvement.  We have the obstacle of being spread out.  We too often have one member committees.  It is too easy to burn out when you are the "only one" on a committee.  "WE" is the key.  "I" can only do so much.  If WE can involve more members then we will be more successful in what we do and can accomplish.

COMMUNICATION  is one of the key factors.  Each of us needs to keep the other members informed.  I hope to have improved communication as one of our goals. We need to communicate more often than just at the quarterly meetings.  Email will be a big help.  Each of us is only a phone call away (or a click of the mouse.)  Use these tools to get help, ask questions or just plain find out how each of us is doing.

We don't have to make any big changes in our functioning since we already have a good system.  WE need to find little ways to make our board and chapter even better.  We don't need to reinvent the wheel, but just find ways to make it stronger.

As president, my job is not to dictate and "do it all" but to lead.  I will do all i can to help each of you, but i also have a lot to learn.  The Board is to work together and not let one or two do it all.  We have some "old members" and "new members" and that should be a good mix.  Each of us should be mentoring others to take our place in 2 years.  WE need to turn to those who have "been there, done that".  You notice that there are a lot of "we's" and very few "I's"

Thank you for your availability and commitment to WAPA.  I believe that we can do a good job in upholding the success of years past and make some positive strides to becoming even better.  We need to remember that ultimately it is not the organization but those we care for that matters the most.  We need to uphold a high standard of health care and help assure availability of health care to all of Wyoming.

Again, thank you and welcome to the new year.

Marilyn K Horsley, P.A.-C

President WAPA
