WAPA Weekly Update

HELLO WAPA NATION!

Welcome to the 23-24 School Year! We’re so excited to have you involved in our performing arts programs.

“WHAT IS WAPA?”

WAPA stands for Whetstone Academy of Performing Arts. Since its foundation in 2018, the Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, and Theatrical Arts programs collaborate and strive to give students one of the most authentic and unique educational performing arts experiences possible. The WAPA Boosters Association supports us financially and with manpower to bring our (and your) visions to life. Thanks for all of your support and involvement to support your students and their peers.

Your Directors,

Mrs. Grace McAllister, Vocal Music
Mr. Rashad Mitchell, Instrumental Music
Mr. Christopher Ray, Theatre Arts
Mrs. Andrea Tippery, Strings Specialist

WAPA ANNUAL MUM SALE IS ACTIVE!

You can't always count on the trees to deliver the fall colors but the mums never fail to delight. Mums are a great way to brighten up your home while the days get shorter, and the sun starts heading south for the winter. And if you get your mums through WAPA you will be supporting your favorite Whetstone student (did we happen to mention it is a Disney year? )

Order deadline is Sunday, September 13th so order soon at: https://whetstoneapa.weebly.com/fall-mum-sale.html

Order pickup will be on Saturday, September 23rd from 12-2pm. (Stay tuned for a sign-up to volunteer for that- it is a super fun time and all for a good cause!)

The Oakland Nursery gift cards also make great year end gifts for people or just stock up for the spring. And tell a friend, or a grandparent, maybe the dog walker, definitely the neighbors...you get the idea.

DISNEY CANDY BAR FUNDRAISER

We are offering students the opportunity to sell Anthony Thomas candy bars to help fund the Disney Trip coming up. Talk to Mr. Mitchell or Mrs. McAllister if you would like to take advantage of this.

P.S. We are running low on our stock, but are ordering more today!

SPONSORSHIPS

Got a business or organization you’d like to promote in our concert and production programs? Check out our sponsorship levels on our Weebly website HERE and contact Julie Boreman (julieboreman@gmail.com) with any questions you might have.

NEXT BOOSTER MEETING

September 11th, 6:30-8pm in Whetstone HS Library
All parents and guardians welcome!

BAND APP: GET CONNECTED!

Help your WAPA directors communicate with you more effectively! To streamline communication and reduce emails and texts, we use a mobile application called BAND. BAND gives us a safe and easy way to share everything related to our group in one place. BAND is a free, leading group communication app designed for teams to stay organized and get updates from one centralized place. You can also post questions, share photos/videos, plan carpools with other parents, etc. Join the BAND app groups for the ensembles/productions that you’re involved with (There’s even one for the Disney trip!)

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG: “THE BEGINNINGS” UPDATE

Thank you all for auditioning for The Play That Goes Wrong. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your preparation. Thank you for knowing and believing that the story will win. The final cast list will be the actors who will best tell the story for the roles in this production - it is not about egos or seniority. Please know that we take every audition seriously and truly appreciate your dedication to this growing WAPA program.

If you did not make the Callbacks list, please know that there was truly an incredible amount of talent that came out for this production. There are only 8 roles and these Callbacks are going to be difficult.

Callbacks are today and we look forward to casting this comedic and epic fall production!

Interested Crew Applicants need to attend Crew Interviews this coming Tuesday September 5th afterschool. Join the BAND app for more information: https://band.us/n/a5af9f6bkaucY
